Youth Spotlight

Priya was a student of the Youth Law Enforcement Academy this summer and had a lot to say about her experience!

“I am still in awe of the countless experiences I went through, from police officers, lawyers, pull over demonstrations, shoot/don’t shoot simulations, drunk go-kart racing, secret service, forensics, animal cruelty and much, much more.

I have already recommended this program to my friend who can't wait to join next year! I greatly enjoyed the EEYP Law Enforcement Academy as it gave me a hands-on, eye-opening experience in the policing and public service world. Whether it was the ride-along or workshop settings, I learned more about the duties, challenges, and integrity required of law enforcement.

My biggest takeaway was learning how critical communication and trust between communities are in this field—it's not all about enforcing laws, but building relationships and positive change. Even though the program lasted for four days, ten days later I still have the vast amounts of numerous information I learned incorporated with me. The program also helped shape me as an individual, building my confidence and leadership skills.

I would definitely recommend it to others who are curious about law enforcement or passionate about serving their community—it’s an unforgettable experience that can shape your future.” -Priya S.

Youth Law Enforcement Academy 2025

EEYP hosted the Youth Law Enforcement Academy twice this summer. Forty students were selected to participate in the Youth Law Enforcement Academy, increasing our maximum number of students from 36. Students learned from FBI agents, United States Secret Service, U.S. Marshals, SWAT, local police departments in Fort Bend County, DPS, and several more law enforcement agencies. It was a great opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience and have fun while learning.

Special thanks to LCISD PD, Stafford PD, Arcola PD, Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, Rosenberg PD, and Richmond PD for sponsoring breakfast for our students.

Youth Prosecutor Academy

EEYP hosted the inaugural Youth Prosecutor Academy where students learned from various prosecutors and staff from the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office. Students tested their knowledge and skills with a mock trial led by Judge McCollum. The jury had a hard time deliberating but ultimately, the defense team won their case against the prosecution. It was a great experience for students to learn from real prosecutors and judges. Check out our article to learn more about this program!

United Way Back to School Fair

The EEYP team participated at the United Way Fort Bend Back to School Fair where we shared information with agencies and developed partnerships with non-profit organizations.

Brighter Bites

EEYP students volunteered with Brighter Bites to help bag produce for community distribution. Over 100 bags were made that were then given to Fort Bend County residents.

Freedom Tour

Expose Excellence, along with YMCA of Greater Houston, selected 30 students to attend this year’s Freedom Tour.

The first stop was Atlanta, Georgia. We visited the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park and Ebenezer Baptist Church. Afterwards, we had lunch at the famous Cascade, a well-known roller rink used in films and music videos. The next day, we toured Clark Atlanta University and then made our way to Alabama. The last stops for the day were in Montgomery, Alabama, where we visited the Rosa Parks Museum and had dinner at the local YMCA.

In Selma, Alabama, we marched on the Edmund Pettus Bridge; the same bridge Dr. King marched in 1965. After that, we went to The National Voting and Civil Rights Museum, the Tuskegee Airmen Historical Site, and Tuskegee Legacy Museum located inside Tuskegee University.

In Montgomery, Alabama, we visited the Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration. After that, we went to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and then took a river boat ride to the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park. After traveling to Birmingham, we ended the day at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Kelly Ingram Park, and 16th Baptist Church. Next Stop: Memphis, Tennessee!

In Memphis, Tennessee, the day started at the STAX museum where students learned the origins of soul music. Afterwards, we had lunch at the well-known Four Way, a soul food restaurant where Dr. King and other civil rights leaders once gathered. We then visited National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel, where Dr. King was assassinated. Lastly, we stopped at I AM A MAN Plaza for photos.

Our last stop was in New Orleans, Louisiana, where we were given a black heritage and jazz tour and visited the Louisiana Civil Rights Museum.
