Celebrating Culture, Community, and Connection at ¡Excelente!

The Expose Excellence Youth Program (EEYP) proudly hosted ¡Excelente!, a vibrant celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, on Friday, September 19th at the Mamie George Community Center in Richmond, TX. The event brought together youth, families, and community members for an unforgettable evening filled with culture, creativity, and connection.

Guests enjoyed an incredible lineup of performances and activities. Former EEYP student (now college student) Natalia Camelo inspired the audience with a moving poetry performance, showcasing the power of youth voices. Grupo Folklórico Mi Barrio brought the stage to life with traditional dance, sharing the beauty of cultural expression through movement and music. Attendees also joined in four lively rounds of lotería, a beloved tradition that had everyone cheering and connecting across generations.

Art was at the heart of the evening. Student artwork from across Fort Bend County lined the space, giving young creators the chance to shine and share their perspectives with the community. Our featured artist, Jorge Muñoz, captivated attendees with bold, symbolic pieces rooted in ancestry, memory, and transformation. To make the experience even more interactive, coloring pages inspired by Jorge’s work were distributed so every guest could take a piece of the art home.

None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors, whose support made it possible to provide free food, entertainment, and activities for all attendees. We extend our heartfelt thanks to:

  • Judge Christian Becerra

  • Judge Argie Brame

  • O’Neal Williams

  • Tamecia Glover

  • Attorney Eddie Cortes

  • Double Horn Roofing & Construction

  • ESP Office Solutions

  • Takos Mi Yorch

  • The Chill Art Room/Jorge Munoz

We are especially grateful to Catholic Charities’ Mamie George Community Center for welcoming us and providing the perfect space to celebrate together. Together, they helped us create a space where culture, creativity, and community could thrive.

¡Excelente! was more than just an event — it was a celebration of heritage, unity, and the powerful role youth play in shaping our shared future. EEYP is grateful to everyone who attended, volunteered, and contributed to making the evening a success. We look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for young people to express themselves, develop life skills, and connect with their community.
