Summer Days Gone By
School may have been out for the summer, but EEYP was active and kept students engaged in learning with inspiring field trips and educational academies all summer long! EEYP hosted the Youth Prosecutor Academy, Youth Law Enforcement Academy, and the Freedom Tour with a brand new partnership with Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis. We also hosted the back-to-school summer workshop series, Thrive and Shine. It was an unforgettable summer for our students.
EEYP is very close to reaching our goal of reaching 500 students for this year! Keep reading to see everything we did this summer and what’s to come this Fall!
June
Youth Law Enforcement Academy
EEYP hosted the annual Youth Law Enforcement Academy. Due to high interest, EEYP hosted 2 sessions. Students from all around Fort Bend County participated in this 4-day summer program. There were presentations from local police departments, District Attorney’s Office Investigators, FBI, U.S. Marshals, the Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, Fire Marshals, and SWAT. For the first time in this program, students had the opportunity to learn from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), and Texas Game Warden. It was a fantastic educational experience for students interested in a career in law enforcement.
Special thanks to Lamar CISD PD, Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, Rosenberg PD, and Richmond PD for sponsoring breakfast for our students.
Youth Prosecutor Academy
Thirty students were selected to participate in the Youth Prosecutor Academy. Students learned about the different divisions in the District Attorney’s Office and had the opportunity to learn from attorneys about their specialty. They put to practice what they learned with a mock trial where Judge McCollum oversaw the case Texas v Goldilocks. It was a tough case, and both teams showed great effort; however, the defense team won. Congratulations to all students who participated.
Youth Career Night
EEYP attended Youth Career Night at Cinco Ranch Library hosted by Thrive4Youth. It was a great opportunity to meet with families and share what EEYP had planned for the Summer.
July
2026 Freedom Tour
In partnership with Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis, EEYP took 30 students across the southern United States to learn about the Civil Rights Movement. Students had the opportunity to travel to historical landmarks and learn about the movement that led to the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
The first stop was Selma, Alabama, where students visited Brown AME Chapel and the National Voting and Civil Rights Museum, and walked where activists once marched for the right to vote on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. After that, we then headed to Tuskegee, Alabama, where students toured Tuskegee University and visited the Tuskegee Legacy Museum.
In Montgomery, Alabama, students visited the Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration. After that, students went to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and then took a riverboat ride to the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park. Next, we visited Birmingham, Alabama, where students visited the 16th Street Baptist Church and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.
In Memphis, Tennessee, students visited the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel, where Dr. King was assassinated. Afterwards, students had lunch at the historic Four Way restaurant where Dr. King and other civil rights leaders once gathered. Lastly, students visited Beale Street, where soul and blues music originated, and the I AM A MAN Plaza.
Our last stop was in New Orleans, Louisiana, where we were given a musical telling of the history of Congo Square and a Second Line Mardi Gras performance. The next day, students visited the Louisiana Civil Rights Museum and William Frantz Elementary School, where Ruby Bridges attended during desegregation.
Thrive and Shine
EEYP hosted the 2nd annual Thrive and Shine workshop series to get students ready to go back to school. Courses included teen mental health, scholarship preparation, GIS: the new meta, financial literacy, and teen entrepreneurship.

LCISD CTE Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
EEYP attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the brand new LCISD Career and Technical Education building for students interested in nursing, pharmacy, communications, robotics, mechanics, and many more career fields.
Kindness Through Art
EEYP Manager, Raven, attended the Kindness Through Art event hosted by Gifting Kindness at Parks Youth Ranch. Participants painted jars, transforming them into flower vases, and created floral arrangements in them. It was a great opportunity to support the community.
Kasino Royale
EEYP Manager, Raven, attended Kasino Royale hosted by Mo City Nupes. It was an exciting event with raffles, games, and prizes! All proceeds went toward educational programs.
