Foster High School Wins Inaugural EEYP Youth Moot Court Competition

We have exciting news from the Fort Bend County Justice Center! The inaugural Expose Excellence Youth Program Youth Moot Court Competition took place on Saturday, May 10th, bringing together talented students for a day of legal debate and argument. After months of preparation, including tremendous effort researching case materials and developing their arguments, Team Foster HS has been announced as the winner!

The winning team representing Foster High School consisted of student-attorneys Aiden, Anna Kate, and Presslee and their coach ADA Johna Stallings. Anna Kate was also awarded Best Speaker.

The competition provided a platform for students to apply their understanding of case law and courtroom procedure. Unlike a traditional tournament, teams checked in and were assigned either the Petitioner or Respondent side for their first round of arguments, with scoring determining participants in a final round. Awards were presented at the end to recognize the highest scoring teams: Kinder High School of Performing and Visual Arts, Foster, Dulles, Fort Bend Christian Academy, and Travis High School.

The students' hard work was evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges, including Judge Tyra McCollum, Justice Chad Bridges, Judge Lewis White, Judge Juli Mathew, and DA Brian Middleton. Their dedication and expertise were invaluable in assessing the students' performance.

We must also extend a huge thank you to Varghese Summersett PLLC for their sponsorship, providing lunch for all participants. Thanks also go to the supportive teachers and the fantastic mentor attorneys from the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office who volunteered their time to guide the students.

This competition highlights the dedication and legal acumen of the participating youth. We are so proud of all the students who took part.

We're already excited for next year's competition!
